What is TSONS?
The Sherman Oaks Nursery School (TSONS) is a warm, community-focused preschool where young children learn through play, exploration, and meaningful relationships. We support the whole child—socially, emotionally, physically, and cognitively—while celebrating each child’s unique personality

What is your teaching philosophy?
Our curriculum is a balance between play-based, developmentally appropriate activities, and an academic focus. Children learn best through hands-on experiences, social interaction, creativity, and guided exploration, all which prepares them for their next step into kindergarten.
Enrollment & Admissions
How do I apply?
Applications are available here (add link) and must be submitted with the required application fee. Please note that submitting an application does not guarantee placement.
When should we apply?
Both Nursery School and Parent & Me applications are accepted year-round! We will contact you in the spring for placement into the Nursery School, and for Parent & Me, we will contact you as soon as a space becomes available.
Is there an application fee?
Yes.
Nursery School: $100 (non-refundable)
Parent & Me: $45 (non-refundable)
Do you offer school tours?
Yes. In-person tours are offered by appointment on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings at 10:00a.m. (add link for tours here)
Tuition & Fees
How much is tuition?
Tuition is based on the number of days per week your child attends, with additional annual fees. Monthly or full-year payment options are available.
Are there additional costs?
Optional programs such as Enrichment classes, Developmental Kindergarten, PreK PLUS and Summer Sessions have separate tuition.
Schedule & Daily Life
What are your school hours?
Classes run from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Nursery School classes are offered from 9:00am to 1:00pm
Developmental Kindergarten, PreK PLUS or Enrichment classes extends the day until 3:00 p.m.
Parent & Me classes meet once per week for an hour.
Is this a full-day preschool?
TSONS is primarily a half-day program, with optional extended learning programs.
Parent & Me Program
What happens in a Parent & Me class?
Children attend with a parent or caregiver and participate in music, movement, art, sensory play, and social experiences in a supportive group setting.
What ages are eligible?
Classes are grouped by age, typically within six-month ranges, and are offered during fall, spring and summer semesters. Children are between the ages of 12 and 23 months when the fall semester begins in September. A new class is added in the spring for children 12-17 months as of February.
Enrichment Program
What is enrichment?
Enrichment classes include both indoor and outdoor play, offering children additional opportunities to socialize, meet new peers, and work with different teachers. Popular offerings for this program include Yoga for Kids, Storybook Cooking, and 3D Sculpture Art. Three enrichment sessions are offered each school year (fall, winter, and spring) with class descriptions and pricing available prior to each session.
Who is eligible?
Children in the Nursery School program who are 3, 4 or 5 years old may participate in these classes
Developmental Kindergarten/PreK PLUS
What is Developmental Kindergarten (DK)?
Developmental Kindergarten is a one-year program for our oldest preschoolers that builds on the morning Pre-K curriculum through a thematic, integrated approach to math, science, phonics, and language arts. As children grow in maturity, they take greater ownership of their learning, collaborate on projects, and develop leadership skills in a supportive classroom environment; classes meet Monday–Thursday from 1:00–3:00 p.m. as an extension of our morning program.
What is PreK PLUS?
PreK PLUS is a one-year program for children in their first year of our Pre-Kindergarten morning program. This program nurtures pre-reading, math, and science skills through engaging, hands-on activities and games that promote language development, problem-solving, and early literacy. Classes meet M-Th from 1:00pm to 3:00pm as an extension of our regular morning program.
Parent Resources
How do you communicate with parents?
Families have access to a parent portal where they can find classroom newsletters, school information, required forms, and important updates. Parent/Teacher conferences are held twice a year in the fall and spring. We also have a resource library for parents as well as parent education meetings offered periodically throughout the school year.
Our door is always open for families wanting to chat!
Moving On to Kindergarten
Children feed into a variety of local area private and public schools (link to Where are we now?)
TSONS student are well prepared as they transition into kindergarten and are accepted to many highly sought after private schools.
We offer group meetings, one-on-one consultations, and periodically bringing in educational consultants to help guide families through the process of finding the best next step for their children.
